Quality and progress in the third generation.

Quality and progress in the third generation.

Ziegler Erden was founded by Gregor Ziegler in 1989. In its early years the plant processed only raw bark from local sawmills into high-quality bark mulch. Being close to the timber industry, forestry and horticulture encouraged us early on to develop innovative products for the green market from natural by-products. In the following years the company grew steadily and on a sound financial footing. Today Ziegler Erden is one of the largest independent soil producers in Germany. With the handover of responsibility to Matthias Ziegler, the company successfully passed to the second generation. Company founder Gregor Ziegler continues to support this transition with his experience, while increasingly stepping back from day-to-day business. At the same time, the third generation is already active in the company in the person of Louis Ziegler. As assistant to the management, he is taking on responsibility step by step and shaping the future of the family business together with Matthias Ziegler. In this way we combine tradition, experience and new ideas – with a clear focus on the responsible use of natural raw materials.

Baden Airpark Energie GmbH, Rheinmünster.

The biomass combined heat and power plant in Rheinmünster, Baden, supplies 40 megawatts of thermal energy a year from sustainable raw materials. Besides generating electricity, the waste heat and steam are used to dry sawmill by-products for pellet production and to make wood fibre as a peat substitute.

Our newest site, the former Emsflor soil plant in Wiesmoor, East Frisia, was acquired in 2019. This additional site mainly produces peat-free and peat-reduced soil products, which reach retailers over short transport routes.

ZIBU Ventspils SIA, Latvia.

For professional soil products, horticulture still relies on peat as an ingredient. To secure the industry’s supply of high-quality peat, Gregor Ziegler founded the subsidiary ZIBU in 1998, which mainly extracts peat.

Based in the port city of Ventspils in Latvia, the company extracts peat under strict supervision, packs part of the raw material in big bales (6 m³) and supplies its international partners throughout the EU.
